Comforting French Onion Chicken

A delicious and hearty dish that combines the flavors of French onion soup with tender chicken, topped with turkey bacon and melted cheese.

  • 4 chicken breasts
  • 6 ounces turkey bacon
  • 2 large onions, sliced
  • 4 cups beef broth
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon thyme
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (Swiss or Gruyère)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large skillet, cook the turkey bacon until crispy. Remove and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, add olive oil and sauté the onions until caramelized.
  4. Season chicken breasts with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and thyme.
  5. Add the chicken to the skillet and brown on both sides.
  6. Pour in the beef broth and bring it to a simmer.
  7. Transfer the skillet to the oven and bake for 25 minutes.
  8. Remove from the oven, top with cheese and crumbled bacon, and return to the oven until the cheese is melted.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, add a splash of red wine to the broth.
  • Serve with crusty bread to soak up the broth.
