Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine warm water, granulated sugar, and salt. Sprinkle yeast on top and let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. Stir in flour until dough forms. Knead for about 5 minutes until smooth.
  3. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour.
  4. Preheat oven to 450°F (232°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  5. In a pot, bring 10 cups of water and baking soda to a boil.
  6. Shape the dough into pretzel shapes. Boil each pretzel for 30 seconds, then place on the baking sheet.
  7. Brush with beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse sea salt.
  8. Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
